I paid $279.00 for the pair in 1989, I am downsizing and its time to say farewell to these old friends. Sony Japan was famous for their quality and tight tolerances, and these speakers are true to that ethos. The cabinets have been matched to the speakers which gives an extremely tight tolerance of .5 % which is the reason for their famous \"ruler flat\" frequency response. These have matching pair numbers 933931\/933932 and were selected by Sony to pair perfectly.\u003cbr\u003eI have never driven them with anything approaching 60 watts and they are acoustically pristine. The \u003cspan\u003ematte black cabinets \u003c\/span\u003eshow little evidence of wear, the corners and edges are sharp and only the bottoms show meaningful scratches.  I at one time had top mounted brackets supporting them, thus the 4-hole pattern visible near the top\/rear edge.
