Moorish Islamic two piece, pierced copper 'Mosque' lantern c1900
Moorish Islamic two piece, pierced copper 'Mosque' lantern, large and vintage. Patinated copper ovoid-shaped lantern body fitted with 3 hanging chains and a shaped copper/bronze wrought hanging hook. Finials to top and bottom of lantern body which is fitted with a hinged access door. The body and chains are heavily oxidized with areas of verdigris seeping through. Two small areas of damage to the pieced decoration, overall in very good untouched vintage condition. This is a lovely, decorative Middle Eastern Mamluk style lantern that will create a dramatic and exotic statement to any interior. Probably late 19th century vintage, 36" inch overall length hook to pendant, suspender chains are 14" long and the pendant chain is 3-1/2". The ovoid-shaped lantern body is 12"diameter and 18" long. The flange at the equator is ~14" diameter. The hinged access door is 2-1/2" x 3-1/2", and in the bottom of the lantern is what looks like a puddle of old, hardened wax. The electrical cord is passed through one of the 2 damaged areas in the piercing, and is easily removed or replaced.
