A grain focuser (or focus finder) is a darkroom tool used in film photography to achieve critical, sharp focus when making enlargements. It acts as a specialized microscope, magnifying the actual silver grain of the projected negative (usually 10x-25x). By looking through the eyepiece, you can adjust the enlarger lens to make the grain, rather than just the image, look perfectly crisp, ensuring maximum print sharpness.

I bought this in 1968 at Alfredo's cameras in New Orleans, La. The Magna Sight Enlarger grain focuser was the highest-quality magnifying focuser I could afford, and I've used it for ~60 years now.
