This is a World War II-era U.S. Navy telescope. This piece of American history was manufactured by Honeywell for the U.S. Navy circa 1944 and is Mark 74 Mod. 1. It has a plaque on its face that reads “U.S. Navy BU. Ord. / Telescope / Mark 74 Mod. 1 / Mpls. – Honeywell Reg. Co.” and is also marked with various numbers in several other locations. Has a U.S. Navy symbol painted on the body. It also includes the original wooden box for storage with a plaque from U.S. Navy- Bu. of Ord. This is a fully functional telescope, ideal for spotting and birding. It is heavy cast bronze and filled with dry nitrogen. Colored filters may be switched in and out of the view, the pictures in the post were taken through this telescope.
