Here is my Father's 1939 Thorens model 102 HMV acoustic gramophone in excellent condition. This was the first gramophone that my Father owned in college, and he bought it in Switzerland in 1939. It has a 10” turntable, correct Thorens sound box, both automatic and manual brakes, a covered front corner needle bin and is complete. It is finished in a rust colored Rexine® leatherette-cloth covered case with handle and is in perfect working order.
This is not a restoration, he treasured it from his childhood (born 1904) and it is in extraordinarily good condition. This phonograph has been cherished and regularly lubricated for 87 years and is ready to give another 87 years of service. The turntable felt is original I believe, and the cabinet's Rexine® skin is scruffy, but mostly intact with most of the wear apparent on the edges. It plays very loudly and clearly, softer with top lowered. The motor runs without fluttering and the tone arm produces a nice clean sound without extraneous vibrations.
Put this in your office or home or place of business and it will command instant attention (and admiration ).
