Superb 1966 Chelsea US Maritime Administration Marine Clock

My uncle Stan retired from PSNS in 1972 after 40 years of service to the USN. He was a boilermaker and I am sure he liberated this clock sometime during his tenure. He's lucky he didn't end up in the brig - This puppy is heavy (7-1/2 lb) and in excellent condition. It hung in his den in Port Orchard till his passing, when I inherited it.  It was serviced and restored ~5 years ago and keeps time beautifully. These fine timepieces by Chelsea Clock Co of Boston are without doubt the one of the premier in nautical clocks, and have been since the late19th C.

It’s made in solid brass with a 6” silvered clock face that has just a bit of used patina, with a seconds hand and speed regulator. The glazed window unscrews to gain access to the winding arbor and the mechanism and rear of the case is stamped with the matching Serial No 704995, which dates this to late 1966.

Overall it measures 7.25” in diameter by 2.5”D.

Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) was established in 1891 as a Naval Station and has built and serviced our nation’s navy ever since.  It is in Bremerton, Washington
