Sony SS-H1700 Reference Bookshelf Speakers - Matched Pair

These vintage, 6-ohm, 60-watt speakers are well known for delivering surprisingly rich, high-quality audio, high efficiency, good imaging, and robust performance with smaller amplifiers, not to mention their small size. For a small box, the SS-H1700 series can deliver a solid 60 watts and are excellent for those who have limited space. I paid $279.00 for the pair in 1989, I am downsizing and its time to say farewell to these old friends. Sony Japan was famous for their quality and tight tolerances, and these speakers are true to that ethos. The cabinets have been matched to the speakers which gives an extremely tight tolerance of .5 % which is the reason for their famous "ruler flat" frequency response. These have matching pair numbers 933931/933932 and were selected by Sony to pair perfectly.
I have never driven them with anything approaching 60 watts and they are acoustically pristine. The matte black cabinets show little evidence of wear, the corners and edges are sharp and only the bottoms show meaningful scratches.  I at one time had top mounted brackets supporting them, thus the 4-hole pattern visible near the top/rear edge. Cosmetically, I rate then  on a 10 scale and being dark they still look great.
