Here is a legendary Simonds no. 96 Miter/Backsaw. The saw plate is made from chrome/nickel steel and it has a maple double looped handle that just fits your hand like a glove. It is 18" long blade with 10pt teeth. There are some superficial rust stains and the etch is super clear. The finish on the handle is great. There are some superficial scratches and wear, not bad for 100 years or so. Looking at the teeth with a magnifying glass you can see the teeth are still sharp.

Simonds didn't make handsaws for that long, for 25 years from 1901 to 1926. But I believe they used their own steel for that entire time. That era is considered a golden age for hand tools, and Simonds saws are known to be of the highest quality. Simonds is one of America's 3 great saw makers, along with Atkins and Disston.

This saw is for the woodworker that is happy to work unplugged, you'll know what I mean when you read this, it's like fast food vs slow food, it's getting back to the heart of woodworking & using your hands, not flicking a switch.
