Seth Thomas c1876 Centennial Clock
This is a Cottage model veneered shelf/mantle clock created at the time of the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. The top of the door contains a square clear glass panel, the bottom of the door has a reverse painted tablet. Minor paint loss to the background does not detract from the pastoral scene depicting the grand Centennial Exhibition Hall of 1876. The panel includes a central oval depicting the main buildings of the Philadelphia 1876 Centennial Exhibition flanked by an eagle and an American flag and dated "1876."
The original mechanical clock has been professionally replaced with a modern, quartz movement. The dial is also new and an excellent reproduction of the original square painted dial with Roman numerals as was the Seth Thomas trademark. The vertically-rectangular-shaped case has a flat base. The case is surrounded on its front and sides by wide applied molding. The case has a flat top, the front is fitted with a full length hinged door, brass hinges, and a small brass turn knob. Standing a diminutive 14" tall, the clock is impressive, with its O G style door and excellent finish.
