Beef Tea Press by Silver & Co. mid- 1800s. Beef tea presses were used in the Crimean war by Florence Nightengale, and later during the American Civil War.

If you open a book about 19th century dietary remedies it would be hard to find one that does not mention beef tea. It isa type of broth – made with beef and water – given to patients to drink if they were suffering from digestive problems, fever or weakness. People believed that the tea was nutritious and easy on the stomach, which would help patients to return to their former fortitude.

This is not chromed, it is nickel-plated and the top of the press is bright and clear with the name Silver & Co s Beef Tea press. The press has very little wear. Everything works. Measures 3-1/4" base and ~5-1/6" tall. It is 6-5/8" wide".
